Italian Americans

I really learned a lot when I was researching about Italian Americans. My question was what contributions did Italian Americans make to the United States. One random fact I found during research was the October is National Italian American Heritage Month.
Some contributions I found while researching were that Italians created the Bank of America, Blimpie and Subway Sandwhich shops, Planter's Peanut Company, Jacuzzi's, the Mr. Coffee maker, the Big Mac at McDonalds, the Chocolate Bar, and the Cough drop. Also there were significant contributions in sports such as football and baseball. Also, the one I found the most interesting was that John Cabot discovered North America in 1497. I had always been told growing up that Christopher Columbus discovered America. However, this class has shown me that that is not true.
Good luck on the test and the rest of the presentations.

Thanks Lindsay, your information about Italian Americans contributions has given me an insight I never thought about before. As for myself, when purchasing these items I never thought about who, what where or how they came to be. I think for the most part, it was taught it school that Christopher Columbus discovered America by accident, because he was lost. That is way, when we receive information that is supposed to be factual it is good to do research. During the time when we received information taught in school there was not much information to rely on, except from word of mouth or the Encyclopedia. Now we are finding out that information was not true and more research is being done to correct this injustice. Had we not enrolled in this class, we may not have known about some of the injustices or incorrect information that has been displayed or taught to us previously. Thank you, Mrs. Warren for allowing us the privilege to research and bring this information to the class.
