Exam

I was wondering that we should read the chapters for the exam, becuase she told us it will be on the exam. What about the notes she gave us in the class time do you think that we have to study both of the materials to prepare for the exam?

Last class meeting

I am so sorry that I had to miss class. My sister-n-law have been dealing with breast cancer since January of last year. She took a turn for the worst and was moved to Baptist Trinity Home Care & Hospice in Collierville. We can only take it one day at a time and try to prepare for what is yet to come. Can somebody please let me know what I missed and send me the notes. I also need to know what I need to do for my group project. I will do my best not to miss any more classes. Thanks a lot.

Last Class Meeting

We talked a little about the exam and we got in our groups for the project. I'm excited about the group project in looking for information pertaining to my question. My group and I are getting things together so we can get the ball to rolling on finishing strong.

Exam

I am kind of nervous about our 1st exam coming up. She is a great teacher who brakes down the material and makes it interesting to learn new thoughts and ways of putting things, but trying to read the chapters as well I really don't know what to expect to see on the exam.

Study information from class...

I felt a bit more comfortable about the bullets I thought I was missing shortly after class began. When she asked 'Where did we leave off from the last class?' & started to recount all of the things we talked about. I feel really good about knowing that I did recieve what I thought I did but I'm still not sure of how it matches with the reading yet. However, she did say that most of the 1st exam was coming from the lecture &, as for now, I'm gonna hang my hat on that. See ya next class.

1/31/12

I was so glad we get out early. I was so glad to meet my new group members as well. I must say this class appear to be getting off to a slow start but hopefully it will pep up. I printed the syllabus and study guide, as we reviewed notes tonight, I was lost as to what we actually covered on the study guide. Did anyone else feel like this as well?

I concur... I'm at a lost as to how the "lecture" will prepare us for the exam. Maybe if we're able to recount personal stories and such we should be okay.

Tonight's Class

I agree with you Lakeisha. I have been prepared, pen in hand, to take notes during the class period.... BUT I have nothing to write down but a few tidbits of info. I hope the humor will get me through the test!!! It does seem as if the most critical information we will need to know will come from the text. Hopefully after the first test I will be familiar with our instructor's testing style and be well aware of what I need to take note of. The class is so interesting like everyone has said but I am yearning to see how the synthesis will be developed.

Class to Night

I am very eager to get to class to see what the professor has to offer us tonight and to see what material we cover. Although class is interesting I am not sure that very much of the actual material is being covered. So I am almost convinced the most of our test will be coming form the book. I agree that the lecture is quite funny, I am just not sure how informative it is.

Ready for another captivating class.....

Tuesday night, another class. I agree with LaTasha in some ways, it does seem like the study guide was posted on the screen but we didn't really follow it. However, we did get a lot of information. I am eager to see how the first test goes, and how much of the information is really from lecture and how much is dependant on the reading. I think we have some good discussions in class, but sometimes we do get off track or spend an excess amount of time on one subject. Only time will tell! See you all in class tonight.

Last class meeting

My knowledge of this course has increasing by each class meeting. A lot of things I thought about race are the same but yet different. Each topic has caught my attention. For instant: 1.Human has a need for love and effection 2. All of our DNA is found in Africa. Learning these different things makes this course amazing.

In the minority

I may be in the minority here but I'm pretty sure all we did was listen to Dr. Warren crack jokes, tell stories and spit out a bunch of generalizations. Don't get me wrong, I'll take my education with a side of humor any day; it helps the hours feel less painful. However; this last class didn't seem very productive at all. I think we only touched on 2 or 3 items from the study guide. It would be nice to see some concrete backup to the many generalizations besides the one or two personal accounts. Hopefully next week will be more productive?

  Daphne Hall  says:
FUNNY, whew. Dr. Warren is too funny. She is captivating and interesting. I alos like her "down to earth" demeanor. I can tell that she and I will have to agree to disagree about "all women coming from Lucy," but that's ok. I'm not entirely sure how her lectures tie into the study guide - yes I do, I take that back. It's just not explained the conventional way. I must say though that it is refreshing to see a different style of teaching. We will get through this class just fine. Sorry I coul
dn't help.

Free Will

I am trying to understand the free-will point. I believe that you have free-will if you have $1 or $10,000. You have less choices with a $1, but you still have free-will. Everyday we make choices, be they good or bad, and these choices have consequences. Good choices could allow you to have that $10,000 and bad choices could have you begging for food. Some one help me understand! Is free-will different from our ability to make choices?

Subject Matter

Hello Everyone:

I am learning quite a few things in this class and it is quite interesting. However, I am

having a problem with one thing. I don't really know how to recognize the bullets that

are being presented. I am following along with the handouts but the class seems to be

more discussion than instruction. I guess this is the design and I am supposed to draw

my own conclussions from that. Having said that, I feel more comfortable clearing my

own thoughts as I am typing. Thanks for being here for me to blog myself into

understanding. I'll see you in class.

Apple, America and a Squeezed Middle Class

This NYTimes article has some interesting points to make, as to why bigger companies opt to get work outside the US. According to this article, besides cheaper labor, you can get a better product and faster results.

??If it??s the pinnacle of capitalism, we should be worried.??

"A foreman immediately roused 8,000 workers inside the company??s dormitories, according to the executive. Each employee was given a biscuit and a cup of tea, guided to a workstation and within half an hour started a 12-hour shift fitting glass screens into beveled frames. Within 96 hours, the plant was producing over 10,000 iPhones a day.

??The speed and flexibility is breathtaking,?? the executive said. ??There??s no American plant that can match that.?? "

"What??s more, the company??s decisions pose broader questions about what corporate America owes Americans as the global and national economies are increasingly intertwined."

Okay, instead of quoting the entire article... lol :

The question marks are supposed to be hypens and quotations, yet, some of the quotes worked. (?) :)

Class on 1/24/2012

This is going to a very full feeling and great learning experince for me.I must say Mrs. Warren has my full attention, she draws everyone into the lectures with her witty jokes and good experiences from her life. This is my first time taking this class. I am really eagered to see how class will take off once we really get to nitty gritty parts of class. Also, the group presenations has me on the edge of my seat,I just can't wait to get that part over with and done.

Reflections on last night

I couldn't agree with you more on how she can keep a class interested for the entire three hours. Love her points of view. What a shame she is going to be retiring! More upcoming students and even older ones (like me) need to take her class! As I was waiting for the elevator at work this morning, her statement about not asking what a homeless person was going to do with the money you give them popped in my head. Then, of course, came the thought of her snappy reply about what she would do with it! I started laughing under my breath....I know the other people around me probably thought I was crazy! Oh well, what a way to start out a Wednesday morning! :) See you guys next Tuesday! T.

Warren!!!

I really enjoy this class at heart. I am learnig so much important information. I am happy to be in Mrs. Warren's class. She really knows how to keep an entire class interested for an whole 3 hours. I think it is very important we as a society come together and leave the mess behind!

Welcome class

This is my second time taking this class and Ms.Warren teaching of the human race is very different from what my last professor taught which is why I decided to drop the class. I hope to learn more about the human race and how we are all similar. Hope this semester is filled with laugh and entertainment just like our first class was.

Love it

Mrs. Warren is a genious! Last Tuesday was hilarious at best. It should be interesting to see how people are affected by the "shut down" of ideas that are based on anything other than science. I agree as well that there is only one race and that it is the human race. I have bi-racial children and a bi-racial husband and living in the south being a "white" girl with a "black" guy is annoying at times, so it will be nice to find out socially why people are so ignorant!

Class

Hi, I enjoyed class last week. It was great to see people express there opinions about race. I'm excited about getting into the class and learning more.
