first exam

Honestly I received the grade I expected on the test because I only used the study guide to study for the test and only a few questions came from that. Mrs. Warren teaching methods are not what I am use to and even though she does say some of the things that are on the test in her lectures I still dont always fully understand them which makes me somewhat confused in the class. Some individuals have the ability to only listen to a professor talk and receive all the information needed. Even though I am not satisfied with my score I know what to expect next time and not to just look over the study guide but use my book and other resources as well.

Last Class Meeting

We took a test on last class meeting. When the test was completed, students was allowed to leave. I felt good about the test and hope for great results.

Test

Yeah -- I was not overly excited about my score, but I have no one to blame but myself. I just didn't prepare properly for the test -- things going on in my life personally that made it difficult, but I'll just need to buckle down next time. I've had worse scores in my life and pulled through in classes, so I'm going to try not to let this one bother me too much.....

Exam 1

I have to say that I am somewhat tolerant of my exam score. Considering what I expected the exam to be, I am exited about my score. I was frightened to death coming into that exam because I didn't think I had a clue. It was relatively easy and, now that I have some clue of the format, I expect to make a better grade on the next exam. Please do not think that I am not happy with this one, I just like to leave an exam with more assurance about whether or not I did a good job on it.

Test 1

I thought the test was easy. I did make a good grade but I could have done better. I felt if I had focused more on my notes from the lecture and the study guide I could have received the grade I actually wanted. Anyways, better luck next time!

I didn't know we were being graded for posting comments in the blog. Is it just extra credit or actually a grade?

Test 1

I did better than I thought I did. Like many of you, I too made more of it than what it was. I'm going to relax and study more for the next test.

Test 1

I am not happy with my test score. I hope to do better on the next two test. The next time that I test I plan write out questions that were on the test versus just studying for vocabulary only. I think that the test were not difficult, just did not have the right concept in mind.

Test 1

I'm actually happy with my test score. Mentally, I made the test bigger than it actually was. The study guide and especially the handout was what saved me. I'll just have to relax and cover all the material in the study guide and the next test will be a breeze like this test.

I have to study for the next two exams also. I am very disappointed with my test score. The material on the test was covered in class; that's why I don't understand how I made such a low grade. BARELY PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Kenyada Cunningham  says:
I am goin to study more for the next exam but I personally think that we as a class made the test a bigger issue than it was. We were scared of the test buy did not need to be. I know that O second guessed alot of answers that normally i would be sure of. So for the next exam lets study more but also lets relax and be confident in the fact that we know the information.

I will post blogging grades by the weekend.

First Exam

I hope I did okay on last night's exam. The exam turned out to be not as intimidating as I thought. Most of the questions pertained to the material Mrs. Warren covered in class and on the handout.

After looking forward to tonight's important assignment, I unfortunately will not be attending class. My co-worker at St Jude on 2nd Shift had an emergency at the last minute and will not be coming to work until 6:00pm. Hopefully I will not have to stay much longer than that time since I've been here since 7:00am. I know Mrs. Warren's policy about coming in late and I do not want to disturb anyone while they are doing their presentation. I wish everyone luck tonight on their presentation.

Tonight's Exam

Hey Everyone,

Hope studying is going well...

Just wondering if we are to just gather the info from the study guide that was not covered through lecture from the text?
Sorry if Stella spoke on this in the last half of the last class, I had to leave on break.

Hello

Hi everyone I was wondering if we will be using scantrons for the test tomorrow?
Posted by      jina g. at 4:02 PM CST
  Terri Davis  says:
Hi, Jina! Yes, we do have to use the scantron for the test. She said to buy the 8-1/2 x 11 and to go ahead and buy three of them -- 1 for tomorrow night and then have 2 left for our other two tests. They are to the right of the writing aids in the bookstore on campus. Hope this helps! Terri

This Class...

is not living up to the expectations I had hoped for when registering. I expected this class to be an avenue to discuss, question and engage one another about the very rich topic of race, ethnicity and class. It can be tricky to navigate. However, in a "safe" environment it's one that can be a catalyst for an extremely rewarding learning opportunity.

I get the sense that Dr. Warren is only interested in sharing her views (perspective) on this topic but not actively engaging/challenging us to consider it from different lenses. That disappoints me. It's very interesting that Dr. Warren openly dismisses differing viewpoints or challenges to her statements.

I understand that Dr. Warren wants this class to see that its class not "race" that divides us. However, dismissing it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or isn't relevant. I agree with a number of her statements and there some that I don't. It would be nice to have an opportunity to engage in conversation about it. Regardless of whether or not I agree or disagree. That's what higher education affords us, right?

At the end of the day, its important that we understand that what Dr. Warren presents to us in class each week is her perspective of the topic. It is NOT the end all be all of the race, class or ethnicity.

....and if I have to hear her mention how much closer she is to her "African-American" friends than she is to her own sisters... I may scream!
Posted by      LaTasha C. at 11:05 AM CST
  Joey Coleman  says:
I agree with you! She can be very dismissive when views are presented that challenge her views! I whince when I hear her talk of privilege in only an economic sense. And as to her mentioning her African American friends that's fine and dandy but the reality is that she as a white female WILL be treated differently from her black friends which she claims to have so much I common with!

Class Last Night

I know we got off point several times last night, but it was so interesting listening to everyone's views. I think it is really starting to click with everyone. I just wish that so many more people here in Memphis could take Ms. Warren's class before she retires. She has so much to offer and I think she could really pull the communities of Memphis together if given half a chance. I can't wait to see what next week will bring! :) Terri

Amazing Information

Last night class was really amazing. I really enjoyed it because I never had an interesting class as the one we have right now. I gain so much information, that I never knew before thanks to Dr. Warren. Also I enjoyed the comments of my classmates. Our class is like little world that we traying to develop with our own hands, so it is really amazing to see how people unite and understand each other in this class

Race

Hearing all the information that we received tonight was soooo enlightening! Not only do I enjoy Mrs. Warren, but I enjoy all the comments from my classmates. This is such an interesting group that no matter how exhausted I feel, I would never trade the classroom experience for an on-line class. I do want to get thru the study guide so we may have to make a class effort to stay focused.

Missed Class

Hi everyone I was not able to make it class tonight and I was just wondering if it is at all possible could someone please let me see there notes from tonight. Your kindness shall never be forgotten. my email lakrendav@yahoo.com thanks

2-7-12

I must say class tonight was an real eye-opener. I really am starting to see the views of the world in a very different light. I was blown away by how she was able to discuss how the world is seen as "class" and not race at this day and age. Class was very interesting. Now I still have a few comcerns about the test, such as what should we actually study but I will just go over notes and read the book. I have to make sure I'm as prepared as I can be for the test.

My sis-n-law

Good evening to all my classmates,

I just wanted to inform all that my sister-n-law passed this morning @ 3:30 am. She will no longer continue to suffer and be in pain because of this terrible cancer illness. I am so glad the Lord called her home because it was so sad watching her suffer.

Thanks,

Rachel McDonald

Exam

I was wondering that we should read the chapters for the exam, becuase she told us it will be on the exam. What about the notes she gave us in the class time do you think that we have to study both of the materials to prepare for the exam?

Last class meeting

I am so sorry that I had to miss class. My sister-n-law have been dealing with breast cancer since January of last year. She took a turn for the worst and was moved to Baptist Trinity Home Care & Hospice in Collierville. We can only take it one day at a time and try to prepare for what is yet to come. Can somebody please let me know what I missed and send me the notes. I also need to know what I need to do for my group project. I will do my best not to miss any more classes. Thanks a lot.

  Ramey Harris  says:
Rachel, we didn't take any notes in class because Professor Warren was ill. We got into our groups and traded email/phone numbers and chose our questions. After that we were dismissed. I'm sorry to hear about your sister in law. Baptist Trinity Hospice is a very nice place. My ex's grandmother has been there for a little over a month now. She and I were very close, and I visit her often. She too has cancer, hers started in her kidney and has spread to her brain now. Such a sad situation! I'll pray for you and your family.

Exam

I am kind of nervous about our 1st exam coming up. She is a great teacher who brakes down the material and makes it interesting to learn new thoughts and ways of putting things, but trying to read the chapters as well I really don't know what to expect to see on the exam.
