Blogging has ended for test II

I miss you guys already. Of all my students, I admire most those who work all day and come to class at night. No matter how tired I was, you all picked me up and got me going - THANKS!

The blogs were great.

Little Rock Nine

I had a conversation with my dad yesterday about integration of schools. And we talked about the Little Rock Nine. He remebers when the schools were intergrated because he was in elementary school when it happened. He always went to a school that was predominantely black. He told me that my grandmother always wanted him to be "safe in his own enviroment. So I wondered, about the parents of the Little Rock Nine, I'm sure they knew that there would be some resistance to them trying to integrate Central High School. But as a parent myself I cannot stand the thought of sending my child off to school knowing that they may be severly beaten or even killed. So I think I understand why my grandmother wanted my dad to be safe, but I applaud the parents of the Little Rock Nine. Their main concern was changing the racist ways of the South which came with consequences but the positive outcome was greater than fear. If all blacks lived with the fear of change where would we be today? Probably still chained down by the rule of slavery.

Good Luck

Good luck to everyone in the future. This class has been very interesting. Mrs. Warren gave us a lot of new knowledge and open our eyes a little bit. I really did not want to take this class because I took a race, class, and ethnic class at Southwest, but the two classes were very different. In my class at Southwest, we just talked about how groups are affecting currently, with Mrs. Warren I learned about the history and the present of ethnic groups. I think Mrs. Warren challenge some people who felt like they already knew the answers. Anyway, I appreciate Mrs. Warren teaching style, she made you want to listen and it was not boring at all. Good luck to everyone!

PS---I know everyone got an A on this test!

Farewell

I had another exam Tuesday at 8am, was at home studying, and the next thing I knew it was time for class and Iwas just leaving the house. This semester has really taken a great deal of energy from me. It has helped though to be able to go to a class where the instruction given was interesting and the teacher was easy to listen to. This class was recommended to me by the department chair, Dr. Enk, and I had a chance to thank him for it. I really had a lot of things reinforced about the Civil Rights Movement. It is very valuable to me to learns names to present as I venture to get better informed on the rest of this information.

This was one of my better classes of all the classes I've taken, including my first degree. I hope that everyone learned something they could retain and pass on to the younger generation. Thanks Ms. Warren for the enthusiam you have given us and I sincerely hope that your retirement is all you envisioned it would be.

Farewell!

It seems that the semester went by so quickly! It always feels this way for me when the class is interesting, and isn't a drag.
I enjoyed the topics we covered and I was able to see parts of history in a new light. It's crazy how we only know bits and pieces of an event in time, but we learn new things Everytime we revisit them.
It's not often that you have a professor that is capable and willing to teach you outside of what the textbook says. Mrs. Warren clearly wasn't afraid to say, "remember, this is MY class-what you already know need not apply!"
This is what made this class special for me. I think shattering misconceptions and shying you way from your own way of thinking is the best method of teaching!
I will miss her stories as well as everyone's inputs. I know I probably will be encountering a new semester of classes where "thinking outside of the box" will be a rare occasion.
I wish everyone a fun and safe summer!!

The last class meeting

This has been a great semester, and i can actually say, that i really enjoyed this class, almost as much as i enjoyed the instructor. Mrs. Warren has a very unique style of teaching, that happens to coincide with my learning style. So i am really disappointed that i only got this one opportunity to learn from here, but then i think about the people, whom did not get this opportunity, and i just have to smile, and count my blessings. Mrs. Warren, it has been an experience, that i will take with me, and use it to look at this world, from a whole new perspective. Thanks mam, and it has indeed been my pleasure. 1Love. David Pete.

THE LAST DAY....

Through out my first semester i became stressed with my classes. For some reason my last classes in sociology seem to release a lot of that stress i was barring. I have consumed a lot of information from my sociology class this semester, and only hope to learn much more through out the rest of college. There are many facts, and stories that have not been told in high school and i am now glad i mad the choice of attending college. I enjoyed having a teacher like Ms. Warren, and only hope to have many more like her.

Ready for summer

The stress of the semester finally took its toll on me with this last test. I found it hard to retain information and to set aside time to study. This was all my own fault. Learning to management time with work and school responsibilities is detrimental for surviving under a full course load. This last test highlighted much of the civil rights era and talked about the interracial alliances between the groups to achieve basic civil rights. I hope everyone did well on the test and maybe I will have a class with some of you in the future. Tchau(bye)..

Great Class

Wow! Time went by really fast this semester; I still remember the 1st class period were Mrs. Stella kind of "stepped on some people's toes" with the first lecture around religion. Overall she broadened my view and now has me more open minded as to look at the world from a different perspective than what I was use to. I am glad that I was part of one of her final classes being that she is retiring soon. It was a pleasure to meet you all and learn really that we really are not different but just come from different parts of society. Mrs. Stella it was great being in your class; I loved the humor you brought to it and I hope you have a wonderful time away from teaching with Baby who dat and Hank the saint Hill.

Making A Difference

What happens when you get new information that is worth sharing? You share it. Knowledge seems to be fleeing from our youth and sometimes a friend or relative can make a difference. We may never experience the great teachings of Ghandi, Martin Luther King, or W.E.B, Dubois, but we cant let our future generation continue to deteriorate. We must make a difference! Let's commit to at least one positive change for our youth. What can I do? What can you do? Let's do it!
America can be America again--with your help......

Reflections

I am preparing for this exam. I hope to do well on it tonite. This class has been an unforgettable experience. Although, some people don't like how Ms. Warren teaches, I love her teaching style ans wish I could take her for something else. Being in this class, showed me how "different but same" we think about things. The information, the movies, and the atmosphere was eye opening. For those that I will see next semester, see you then and have a great summer. For those I might not see ever again, it's been a pleasure meeting you and remember what we have been taught.
