The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has a new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett is now on the board to write and direct the long-awaited movie, which was at one point supposed to be released in May of this year. Minecraft plugins However, the production has been hit with delays, due in part to director changes. Prior to that, Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was scheduled to direct the film but he left the project in August. He had also taken the reins from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who quit in 2014.

Sollett directed 2002's Raising Victor Vargas and 2008's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Sollett has also been praised for his work on the short film Five Feet High and Rising. Minecraft's original developer Mojang is believed to be working on the project.

Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014. The question now is whether Minecraft will still be able to attract the same number of viewers as it did a few years ago. It's not clear when the movie will be released at this point but with a new director in place and a new director, it might be back on the right path.
